JD Vance Humiliates Himself as Crowd Stays Silent During His Speech

Vice President JD Vance faced an awkward moment Friday during a memorial service for fallen police officers outside the U.S. Capitol after trying to turn the event into a political speech.

While speaking at the Fraternal Order of Police’s National Peace Officers Memorial event, Vance criticized cashless bail policies and praised the Trump administration’s approach to crime. He told the audience, “How about we have a federal government that puts violent criminals in prison, as opposed to letting them out of jail?” After he said it, the crowd reportedly responded with a long silence before a small amount of hesitant applause followed.

The reaction stood out because memorial services are usually focused on honoring fallen officers rather than partisan politics. Some observers believed the audience may have been uncomfortable with the political tone of the speech. Others suggested many law enforcement officials already understand that studies have not shown a major rise in violent crime directly tied to cashless bail systems.

Cashless bail policies are designed to prevent people accused of crimes from sitting in jail before trial simply because they cannot afford bail money. Supporters argue the system is fairer for low-income defendants, while critics say it can allow dangerous individuals back onto the streets.

During the speech, Vance also credited the Trump administration for declining violent crime rates. However, crime experts have noted that violent crime had already been decreasing in many parts of the country before Trump returned to office, and there is limited evidence linking recent declines directly to administration policies.

Vance also repeated claims connecting crime to immigration and drug trafficking at the border. Critics pushed back strongly against those remarks, pointing to research showing immigrants are statistically less likely to commit crimes than people born in the United States. Opponents accused Vance of using fear and anti-immigrant rhetoric for political gain.
