Neighbour Describes How the Ann Widdecombe Suspect Changed for the Worse After One Tragic Incident
Neighbours of a man arrested on suspicion of murdering former MP Ann Widdecombe have spoken publicly for the first time after police carried out a dramatic arrest at a property in South Yorkshire.
The arrest took place on Saturday, almost 300 miles from the late politician’s home on the edge of Dartmoor, where she was found dead on Thursday. Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death as enquiries remain ongoing.
Residents living close to the property where the suspect was arrested said they were shocked to see a large police presence in the normally quiet neighbourhood. Many described the arrest as completely unexpected, with police officers arriving to carry out the operation before taking the man into custody.
One neighbour, 25-year-old Courtney Foster, who lives on the same road in Kimberworth Park, said the man had lived a very quiet and isolated life. According to her, he was rarely seen outside the house and had little interaction with people in the area.
She explained that his father had always appeared to take care of most everyday tasks, and she was unsure whether the man had ever been employed. Foster said she hardly ever saw him leave the property and believed he kept himself to himself.
Reflecting on changes she noticed over the years, she claimed that after the death of his father, his behaviour appeared to change significantly. She said it seemed as though he struggled to cope with the loss and suggested that he had become increasingly withdrawn and mentally unsettled.
Police have not confirmed any connection between the suspect and Ann Widdecombe beyond the ongoing investigation. Detectives continue to appeal for information as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the former MP’s death. The investigation remains active, and the arrested man remains in police custody while officers carry out further enquiries.
