Hillary Clinton Launches a Fierce Attack on Donald Trump Over What He Has Done to the White House

Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton strongly criticised President Donald Trump’s changes to the White House, describing the new decoration as “tacky.”

Speaking on journalist Kara Swisher’s podcast, Clinton agreed that some of Trump’s decorating choices reminded her of the palaces once used by former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.

Clinton said she visited Baghdad after Saddam Hussein was removed from power. At the time, she was serving as a US senator and attended meetings inside some of his palaces.

She said the style inside those buildings looked similar to some of the changes now being made at the White House.

“It is unbelievable,” Clinton said, as she criticised the amount of gold decoration and the grand appearance Trump appears to prefer.

Trump has been carrying out several projects aimed at changing the White House and improving the appearance of Washington, DC. These plans have reportedly included demolishing the White House’s East Wing to make space for a new ballroom and resurfacing the Reflecting Pool near the Lincoln Memorial.

Trump blamed vandals for damage to the Reflecting Pool. However, his own Justice Department later acknowledged that the contractor hired for the work had made mistakes during the installation.

Clinton said it was strange to see the US president paying so much attention to a badly completed pool project when the country faces many more serious problems.

She described Trump as distracted, obsessed and focused on the wrong issues. She jokingly added that perhaps people should be thankful he was spending time worrying about the Reflecting Pool instead of starting another war.

Trump has also proposed building a 250-foot triumphal arch near Arlington National Cemetery. Clinton called the proposal a “terrible idea.”

She said she did not oppose the general idea of adding a ballroom to the White House. However, she strongly disagreed with Trump’s proposed design and the way the project was being handled.

Clinton argued that there had been no proper process or careful planning before the proposal was introduced. She described the planned ballroom as an unattractive addition to the historic White House building.

Inside the Oval Office, Trump has added gold decorations to many walls and surfaces. Clinton said it was sad to see such an important and historic room made to look so tacky.

She claimed the heavy use of gold reflected Trump’s personality and his desire to appear wealthy, powerful and important.

Clinton also accused Trump of struggling to concentrate on the country’s biggest challenges. She suggested that instead of focusing on foreign policy, artificial intelligence, national security and the future of American workers, Trump appeared more interested in finding new places to add gold decorations.

According to Clinton, Trump spends too much time thinking about things that make him feel important while giving less attention to the serious problems facing the United States.
