Lawrence O’Donnell Sums Up Trump In A Blistering 5-Word Label That’ll ‘Live In History’

MS NOW host Lawrence O’Donnell said that the way people now describe Donald Trump could easily become the title of a future biography about him.

Speaking on Tuesday, O’Donnell argued that Trump is no longer being seen as the “leader of the free world,” a title often given to U.S. presidents. Instead, he said more people are starting to describe him as “a dangerous and corrupt gangster.”

He pointed to comments made by Ed Davey, a British politician who recently criticised Trump over a threat he made toward Iran. Davey said Trump’s actions were a clear sign of how reckless, immoral, and outside international law he believes the president is.

Davey, who leads the Liberal Democrats, also said Trump is not a friend of the United Kingdom. In a statement to Parliament, he said Trump should not be seen as a global leader but instead as someone dangerous and corrupt, and that this is how he should be treated.

O’Donnell compared this moment to history, mentioning how former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill once described Adolf Hitler as a “monster of wickedness” during World War II. He suggested that strong labels like the one Davey used for Trump could stick for years and shape how history remembers him.

He added that what makes Davey’s statement stand out is where and when it was said, especially given the long history of friendly relations between U.S. presidents and the British Parliament.

Davey’s comments come as he is calling for King Charles III to cancel his planned state visit to the United States. The King is expected to speak to Congress and meet Trump later this month.

O’Donnell also pointed out that in the past, U.S. presidents were often praised and even admired in the British Parliament. But now, he said, a sitting president can be called something as harsh as a “dangerous and corrupt gangster” in Parliament without anyone strongly objecting.

In the same discussion, Davey warned that Trump’s reported plan to block the Strait of Hormuz could make the UK’s cost-of-living crisis even worse by affecting global energy supplies.

O’Donnell ended by saying that Trump has now become a serious issue not just for the U.S., but for the UK and other European countries as well, suggesting that governments may need to find ways to deal with the situation.
