Wall Street Journal Says Donald Trump Presidency May Be ‘All But Over’ Without 1 Major Change

The editorial board of The Wall Street Journal, the conservative newspaper owned by Rupert Murdoch, strongly criticized President Donald Trump and said he appears to be losing focus on what really matters as president.
In its latest opinion piece, the newspaper said Trump has become too distracted by personal interests and political grudges instead of concentrating on leading the country effectively. The editorial board warned that many Republicans are becoming worried behind closed doors because they believe Trump’s personal behavior and political obsessions are damaging his presidency.
The paper also warned that things could get much worse for Trump if Republicans lose control of Congress during the 2026 midterm elections. According to the editorial, if Democrats take back the House or Senate, Trump’s presidency could become extremely difficult, with investigations and even another impeachment battle becoming possible.
The newspaper said Trump’s second term has become “self-indulgent,” meaning he seems more focused on himself and his image than on solving national problems. The editorial pointed to several examples it believes show this problem.
One example mentioned was Trump’s strong focus on building a large ballroom at the White House, a project that reportedly included tearing down parts of the East Wing. Critics described the move as unnecessary and controversial, especially during a time when Americans are more concerned about the economy, inflation, and global tensions.
The editorial also mocked Trump’s habit of putting his name on many projects and ideas, saying he appears obsessed with creating grand monuments and luxurious displays that resemble the style of old European rulers. The paper suggested that Trump cares too much about personal legacy and appearance rather than practical leadership.
The board also highlighted Trump’s falling poll numbers, warning that many voters may be growing tired of the constant drama and distractions. It argued that if Trump does not change direction soon and focus more seriously on governing, his second term could end up being viewed as a major failure.
The editorial concluded by saying Trump needs a major reset in his second year back in office. Otherwise, the paper warned, Republicans could suffer heavy losses in upcoming elections, and Trump’s presidency may spiral into even more political chaos.
