Hunter Biden has once again pushed back against claims that he was responsible for the cocaine found at the White House in 2023.
The son of former President Joe Biden responded to a comment on X that suggested the drugs belonged to him. Hunter firmly denied the accusation, writing, “It most definitely was not,” while celebrating seven years of sobriety. He even joked about the rumor, saying that if he still used drugs, he would not have forgotten where he left them.
The controversy began when the Secret Service discovered a small bag of cocaine in a public area of the White House in 2023. The discovery briefly led to a security evacuation and sparked widespread speculation about who may have brought the drugs into the building. Although no evidence pointed to a specific individual, political opponents quickly focused on Hunter Biden because of his well-known history of drug addiction.
At the time the cocaine was found, President Joe Biden and his family were staying at Camp David and were not at the White House. Despite this, rumors continued to circulate online and in political circles, with many people claiming Hunter was responsible.
The Secret Service launched an investigation but closed the case a little more than a week later. Officials said they were unable to identify a suspect, and no one was charged in connection with the incident.
Hunter has repeatedly denied any involvement. In an interview last year, he pointed out that he was not even at the White House when the drugs were discovered. He questioned why he would bring cocaine into one of the most secure buildings in the world and leave it in a public storage area near the West Wing.
On Monday, Hunter marked what he said was seven years of being free from drugs and alcohol. In a video shared on social media, he thanked supporters who had sent messages of encouragement and said his recovery was the achievement he was most proud of in his life.
Hunter has spoken openly for years about his struggles with addiction. In his 2021 memoir, he described how his drug and alcohol problems worsened after the death of his older brother, Beau Biden, who died from cancer in 2015 at the age of 46. He wrote about falling into a dark period of substance abuse and the difficult journey he faced to rebuild his life.
More recently, Hunter said that a turning point came when the contents of his laptop became public and his personal life was placed under intense public scrutiny. He explained that the experience changed him and helped him overcome many of the fears that had controlled him for years.
While critics continue to question him and revisit his past mistakes, Hunter says he remains focused on his recovery. He believes that staying sober through years of public controversy, political attacks, and personal challenges is one of the greatest accomplishments of his life.
He says he understands why some people remain skeptical, but insists that he has worked hard to maintain his sobriety and move forward from the struggles that once nearly destroyed him.
